ABLOOO - Project Notes

"Knurd* in Paradise"

ABLOOO 2006-2007 Redesign 2, 05/30/07

Total redesign based on the Multiflex 3 Version 1.8 template with only minor changes to the header and navigation. Fixed width design was narrowed down to fit 800 pixel width screen.

Very similar to Multiflex 2 in function, aside from drop-down navigation capability (not used here) and width. Major difference in simplicity and separation of content from presentation. Also better readability and a more modern look in this webmaster's humble opinion.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 Redesign 1, 05/16/07

Total redesign based on the Multiflex 2 Version 1 template with only minor changes to the header and navigation.

Also caught up on old Photo of the Month pages — so October, November, April, and May POTM have all been added this update.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 New Year Greeting, 12/30/06

Embedded an American Greetings e-card into the site.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 Season's Greetings, 12/22/06

Embedded a 123Greetings non-denominational e-card into the site. Also found and added a JavaScript to animate some snowflakes falling over the screen.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 December Edition, 12/07/06

Photo of the Month appears for the first time this season. Still need to catch up on POTM for previous months.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 IE7 Fix, 11/27/06

Noticed a bug in the way Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) was rendering the photo gallery, specifically the way the displayed title overlapped the images in the hybrid theme being used. Fortunately, there is already a fix for this (found by searching the Internet) which has now been implemented.

By the way, IE7 does a nice job rendering the site now. Apparently Micro$oft has finally started to adopt the web standards that everyone else, more or less, abides by. Most notably, the inconsistent scrollbar appearance has been eliminated in IE7 whereas earlier versions of Internet Explorer could sometimes render pages that appeared badly framed, even though no frames were being used.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 November Edition, 11/22/06

Added a Video of the Month for the first time this season. Other than that, a routine update.

ABLOOO 2006-2007 October Edition, 10/31/06

ABLOOO makes its season debut. There have been major changes with an almost total conversion from HTML to XHTML and more emphasis on Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). The heavier use of CSS means that frames are no longer used and the use of tables has been greatly reduced while the final rendering appears almost the same. The Flash button navigation has also been eliminated.

A major improvement is an extensive script (JavaScript) written to populate the Stats Pages, hopefully reducing the manual effort formerly needed. A nice byproduct is that the script also allows users to click on view match-up to see their team's data and their opponents' conveniently displayed for a nifty side-by-side comparison. Another big change is the use of Gallery2 and an SQL database to organize and display the photos. It is hoped that these changes allow for faster loading times, cleaner appearance, and greater usability.

* Knurd

Although many are familiar with the term spelled nerd and popularized on TV's Happy Days and the motion picture Revenge of the Nerds, my introduction to the term was during freshman orientation at a little-known east coast engineering school. We were told that it was really spelled knurd which is, in fact, drunk spelled backwards.
